Sewer Use Fee Increase
Sewer User Fee Increase
The Finance Department has received several inquiries from our residents with regard to the recent increase in the sewer user fee rates. We understand the frustration.
The Village of Richfield is billed by the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NE.O.R.S.D.) for transportation and treatment expenses for all the water which passes through our sanitary sewer system. The sewer user fee rate is a combination of NE.O.R.S.D. rates and Village of Richfield rates. These increases are a reflection of the increased rates imposed by the NE.O.R.S.D. The NE.O.R.S.D. rate increases for the "Suburban" area from 2016 through 2026 are as follows:
- 2016 - $79.85
- 2017 - $84.60
- 2018 - $89.60
- 2019 - $95.05
- 2020 - $100.75
- 2021 - $106.80
- 2022 - $110.95
- 2023 - $115.60
- 2024 - $120.45
- 2025 - $125.50
- 2026 - $130.75
Village of Richfield Rates
The Village of Richfield rates have not been increased since 2006, and still remain at $28.33. For more information on why, view Ordinance No. 75-2004 (PDF), which explains the action taken by Council to address their concern with the NE.O.R.S.D. rate increases.
As our sanitary sewer system ages, the Village will be faced with increased maintenance costs to ensure our system is working at peak condition. We can't guarantee the Village of Richfield rates won't increase, but we are all aware of the delicate balance between providing quality services to our residents and keeping rates at an affordable level.
