Over the last several weeks police departments in the Northeast Ohio areas, including Richfield, have received reports of a fraud scheme in which a caller poses as an attorney and tells the victim that a loved one has been in a car crash that resulted in a pregnant female being injured, and they have been arrested. The suspect then attempts to solicit money for bond.
If you receive a call like this don't engage with the suspect, hang up the phone and report the incident to the police.
Remember anytime anyone calls you and tries to solicit money assume it is a scam and DO NOT pay. If you ever have any doubt of the legitimacy of a phone call, email or letter, ESPECIALLY if they are asking for payment of any kind or personal information, call the Richfield Police Department 330-659-9500 and we will be happy to assist you.
